I had my follow up appointment with my ‘pill pushin’ doctor on the latest results of the last Creatinine blood work; the levels fell off 1 point, e.g. from a 1.7 to a 1.6. The norm, based on internet research is 0.6 to 1.2 (for men) and on my lab work sheets, it calls out a range of 0.7 to 1.5. So for an older guy who fights blood sugar issues with diet and exercise and controls serum cholesterol with statins and vitamin B3, elevated levels ‘of anything’ needs to be watched and monitored regularly. One must stay healthy and fit when fighting for that Last 10 Pounds.
So we, the doctor and I, went over all of my medications and supplements to ensure there wasn’t something there that would drive up the levels; there was nothing I’m doing or taking now that should have any impact on serum Creatinine. What was kind of interesting is that since I have stuck with the same doctor over the last 10 years, he could look at the levels and see that over the last 4 years blood serum Creatinine has ranged from 1.1 to 1.6. So I guess ‘my norm’, based on medications, supplements and lifestyle, is at the higher end. I’m not sure if backing off of the BCAA’s and drinking copious amounts of water prior to the last blood work dropped the level or had any impact. I’ll wait and see because in another 6 months (in fact every 6 months) I’ll be back in my doctor’s office going over the latest blood work.
As part of this little issue and again, based on internet research (which may or may not be the truest source of information), I also found that statins (Lipitor) will raise blood Creatinine and so will the omeprazole (Prilosec) that I take to control habitual GERD. So between my workouts and my meds, it makes sense that I’m at the high end of Creatinine normalcy. I think that before my next blood work, I’ll back off of the Lipitor (1/2 my usual dose) in the preceding month and I’ll back off BCAA’s for a couple of days prior and see where that goes.
Besides the medical oddities, I’m still sticking to my latest plan of exercise, intermittent fasting and supplementation and will report back as I get closer to that final goal, that Last 10 Pounds.
Stay fit and live long.
